Sport Horse Mares:
Full time broodmares or mares taking time off from sport can board year round at BC. BCF provides full service care for mares commencing from the time the mare is bred until the foal is weaned and beyond for additional breeding seasons.
Sport Horse Foals & Young Horses (Foals to 3Years of age):
BCF will nurture and raise foals from birth until the spring or summer of their 3 year old year.
Weanlings and yearlings are shed raised, allocated by age and sex, in groups of 12-15 depending on the size of the field (minimum of 20 acres). These groups will have 24hr turnout in fields with large run-in straw bedded sheds for feeding and shelter.
The staff closely monitors the health, weight and developmental needs of each individual. High quality hay and grain is fed each day. The fields are tested yearly for nutrients (65% Bluegrass & Clover, 34% Orchard mix).
The young sport horses are raised conjointly with Blue Chip’s Standardbred youngsters. Standardbreds have excellent steady temperaments and Blue Chip has found them very suitable companions for the young sport horses.
Each foal/young horse will be trimmed and vaccinated appropriately according to age. Blue Chip’s staff provides physical updates for owners who can’t visit regularly.
BCF management can facilitate the Registration of each foal with the Breed Registry of owner’s choice including DNA, foal markings and pictures. Annual keurings are conducted at BCF by Breed Registries if owners would like to participate for inspections by European judges.

Sport Horse Rehabilitation Boarding Services:
BCF is a perfect facility for rehabilitation for sport horses that need time off and turnout. The staff at BCF successfully nurtures sport horses of all calibers including jumping superstar Goldika 559 who, after a potential career ending injury, rehabbed at BCF and went back into the Grand Prix ring to win several top Grand Prix before her retirement at the age of 18.
In addition to paddock turnout, the farm has two walkers to provide controlled exercise and conditioning prior to resumption of training.

Young Sport Horse Handling and Training:
Foals are gently handled, halter broke and learn to lead after birth. At approximately 3 weeks of age the foals turned out into run in sheds to take advantage of summer and fall pasture, and for socialization purposes. Their development is daily monitored by a two person team who is dedicated to overseeing their feeding and care along with the farm’s veterinarian. Weanlings are brought back into the stall environment for 10 days in the late fall for handling.
Yearlings are brought in for stall boarding and daily turnout in April or May for 30 days for grooming, handling and hands on attention so staff and owners can safely manage the young sport horse as they grow. Gelding of non-stallion prospects can be arranged. Stallion prospects can be segregated appropriately for additional fees.
Two Year Olds in late spring/early summer may advance to a 3-4 week training program for breaking and long-lining or wait until their 3YO year. BCF can recommend professionals for breaking or owners may wish to participate in the breaking program at BCF. If owners participate in the BCF program, they can have the option to leave the 2YO at BCF for additional turnout after breaking until spring or summer of their 3YO year (full turnout is recommended after breaking young sport horses at 2yrs of age.) Each 2YO at Blue Chip will be brought in for stall boarding and daily turnout in April or May for 30 days for grooming, handling and hands on attention.
Three year olds in late spring/early summer should advance on to a training program. BCF can recommend professionals for this service. Thirty days prior to leaving the farm 3YOs will be brought in for stall boarding and daily turnout for grooming, handling and hands on attention.
